Responsible agentic AI

Govern the decision, not just the model.

Responsible agentic AI requires clear authority, controlled access, reliable evaluation, human escalation and an auditable record of what happened.

Human-agent operating model: enterprise systems (ERP, CRM, HCM, ITSM, Finance, Supply Chain) feed an Agentized Agent core with memory, data, tools and permissions, which requires human approval before acting, and reports to authority and governance, generating reports, process automation, system updates and notifications.

Illustrative architecture, not client data

Governance principles

Eight commitments, engineered into every deployment.

AGENTIZED! calls this an agent's Boat Papers — the file that travels with it for as long as it works. These eight commitments are that idea, run as an enforceable checklist inside a client engagement.

PurposeEvery agent has a defined mission tied to a business outcome.
OwnershipEvery significant agent has an accountable business owner.
AuthorityThe agent can observe, recommend, draft, act with approval or act within explicit limits.
AccessData and tool permissions follow least-privilege principles.
EvidenceTests, decisions, actions, overrides and incidents are recorded.
Human controlConsequential or irreversible decisions have appropriate approval and escalation paths.
ReviewPerformance, value, risk and continued need are reviewed on a defined schedule.
RetirementEvery agent has a change, suspension and retirement path.
Authority levels

How much latitude an agent has is a deliberate design decision.

The book's Authority Ladder runs five rungs, Assist to Coordinate. In a client engagement we split the top rung in two — acting within policy and escalating an exception are different failure modes, so they get different tripwires.

01ObserveMonitor and summarize without making recommendations.
02RecommendPropose an action for human decision.
03DraftPrepare content, analysis or transaction details for review.
04Act with approvalExecute only after an authorized human approves.
05Act within policyExecute reversible actions within defined limits.
06Escalate exceptionsStop and route high-risk, ambiguous or out-of-policy cases.

No agent goes live without an owner, a defined scope, and a way to shut it off.

We build these rules into the workflow before launch, not into a policy document after it.
